Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said he was satisfied with Malaysia’s economic growth, which he described as “very encouraging”. He said this mostly involved the trade and export sector, with the value of exports exceeding RM70 billion for the fourth consecutive month since November 2016.
“For February this year, our exports reached RM71.77 billion, an increase of 26.5 per cent compared to last year. All major sectors, namely manufactured goods, mining and agricultural products recorded high growth. “This is a positive indicator and a boost of confidence to the efforts and policies of the Malaysian government,” he said in his Facebook update tonight.
According to the International Trade and Industry Ministry, Malaysia’s trade in February 2017 rose 27.1 per cent, reaching RM134.83 billion compared to the same month the previous year.
Datuk Seri Najib said based on the encouraging growth, research institutes also forecast that the country’s economy would expand further this year from that projected earlier.
