Canon Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd today launched the much-awaited Canon EOS R mirrorless photography system in Malaysia. Priced at RM9,888 (body only), the EOS R is aimed at professionals and serious photography enthusiasts. The EOS R body was also launched alongside four dedicated RF lenses, three variants of RF mount adapters and a battery grip.
The EOS R boasts specifications that are also clearly aimed at professionals who have long used Canon’s full-size EOS system. It has a 30.3 megapixel full-frame sensor, CMOS AF with over 5,000 selectable points, 4K video recording, and 10-bit 4:2:2 HDMI output. The system utilises an all-new RF mount for interchangeable lenses, with adapters available for legacy EF and EF-S mount lenses for full-size DSLRs.
Canon’s maiden foray into the mirrorless DSLR market follows the increasing popularity of mirrorless DSLR’s among professional photographers. Although sales of full-sized DSLR’s still dominate the market, growing mirrorless competition from the likes of Sony and Fujifilm has also spurred Canon’s entry into the field. The EOS R’s video capability also reflects the increasing use of DSLR’s for broadcast video recording.
