Singapore Institute of Retail Studies (SIRS) are joining forces to provide training to small businesses and entrepreneurs seeking new and global sales channels in the fast-growing eCommerce sector. The full-day workshop dubbed “Let’s eBay with SIRS”, is part of the “Let’s eBay” series; and is a direct follow-up to the eBay workshop held in collaboration with MATRADE and MDEC at Kuala Lumpur on 13 April 2019. The training session will consist of case studies, advice on getting started, and introductions to payments and logistics service providers to help small businesses begin their global ecommerce venture. eCommerce has proven to be a major success in the retail industry. Singapore’s eCommerce market is expected to grow by 48 per cent to S$10.04 billion by 2022. Such success has led many enterprising Singaporeans to capitalise on the opportunity to sell their products online directly to customers all around the world. “Let’s eBay with SIRS has been designed for the small business and entrepreneur who has little or no ecommerce experience but wants to learn directly from the source”, said eBay Head of Southeast Asia Seller Growth Wong Mei Inn. “eCommerce has been recognised as one of the key growth opportunities under the 2020 vision of the Retail Industry Transformation Map launched by SPRING Singapore (now Enterprise Singapore)”, said Nanyang Polytechnic’s Singapore Institute of Retail Studies Director Megan Ong. SMEs contributed to approximately 72 per cent of Singapore’s employment in 2018. SMEs added a nominal value of S$213.6 billion, or 48 per cent to the economy. The Singapore government recognises the importance of SMEs to the nation’s economy. By assisting them in connecting with the digital market, their contributions can only increase. “Let’s eBay with SIRS” is set to take place at the Lifelong Learning Institute, one of two Continuing Education and Training (CET) campuses by SkillsFuture Singapore on 25 April 2019. Entrance to the workshop is free, however, seats are limited and require an online registration. Following the event, eBay will also be launching a series of courses with SIRS to further enable SMEs to optimize cross-border selling and manage operations.
