Malaysia’s Industrial Production Index Up 4.6% in May
Malaysia’s Industrial Production Index (IPI) rose 4.6% in May 2017 from the same month of 2016, supported by strong growth in the manufacturing and electricity sectors. The manufacturing and electricity indices rose 7.3% and 2.5% during the month. The Department of Statistics said on a month-on-month basis, the manufacturing sector output continued to record significant growth in May after expanding 6.7% in April. Increases were seen in major sub-sectors, namely electrical and electronics products (11.6%), food, beverages and tobacco (12.9%), and petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic products (3.1%). Meanwhile, the electricity sector output improved by 2.5% in May after a decline of 1.5 per cent in the previous month.
China’s Tourists To Langkawi Expected To Increase Threefold
The number of tourists from China could rise to 380,000 this year following several airline companies’ willingness to operate direct flights between various destinations in the republic and the resort island. State Religious, Tourism and Heritage, and Public Works Committee chairman, Datuk Mohd Rawi Abd Hamid said the increase would be threefold from the 127,689 Chinese tourists visiting Langkawi last year. “The direct flights could help further promote Langkawi as a choice destination among tourists from China,” he told reporters after leading a welcoming ceremony for tourists on a China Southern Airlines first direct flight from Guangzhou, early today.
Indonesia To Send Mission to Malaysian Travel Fair
In a bid to lure visitors from Malaysia, Indonesia would take part in Malaysia’s travel fair next month. “We have so many things to offer, will maximise our presence in the upcoming Malaysian travel fair to bd held in Johor Bahru,” Deputy Minister for International Tourism Marketing of Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism, I Gde Pitana said. He said Indonesia would bring 12 tour and travel agents to sell tour packages for potential visitors in the event organised by the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA).

Online payment gateway, iPay88, aims to penetrate international markets to grow its e-commerce sector and strengthen its position and brand in ASEAN countries. Executive Director, Chan Kok Long, said iPay88 was looking at opportunities in the Asia-Pacific, Bangladesh, Hong Kong and West Asia.
Saudi Arabia to make biggest cut in oil exports in August
Saudi Arabia will cut crude oil shipments to its customers in August by more than 600,000 barrels per day to balance the rise in domestic consumption during the summer, while staying within its OPEC production commitment, a Saudi industry source said. “There is strong demand for our crude but we are sticking to our OPEC commitments. Crude exports for August will fall to their lowest level this year at around 6.6 million bpd. Crude allocations to Asia for August will be reduced by about 200,000 bpd to 3.5 million bpd, while allocations to Europe will be down by around 70,000 bpd at 520,000 bpd.”
