The Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) has assured Malaysians that there will be enough supply of critical goods during the Movement Control Order (MCO). FMM said it had been working closely with the International Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI) to identify businesses producing essential goods that are allowed by the National Security Council (NSC) to continue operations.
“Subsequent to the approval of the list by NSC, Miti quickly swung into action with the establishment of the online system for companies to apply for approval to operate during the MCO period. It also activated its war room to process the applications on a 24-hour basis,” FMM said in a statement on Sunday.
The statement added that the FMM secretariat and other MITI agencies were also roped in to assist the ministry to verify applications and handle enquiries, due to the “overwhelming number of applications”. “The number of applications has stabilised and approvals have been given for the production of critical essential goods such as food items, personal protective equipment such as facemasks, sanitisers, pharmaceuticals and medical equipment,” it said. FMM is also working with the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry and Transport Ministry on the matter.
“Due to the strong collaboration between the government and the private sector, FMM is highly confident that there will be ample and sufficient availability of basic and critical essential goods during the movement control order period,” it said.
