Workplaces of the future will entail having seamless collaboration tools, the ability to work remotely, as well as catering to digital natives of Generation Z.

According to IDC, organisations need to take a holistic strategy to leverage digital technologies across three critical tenets: workspace, culture and workforce to meet the digital transformation. However, 60 per cent of organisations in Asia Pacific are struggling with this, due to multi-faceted challenges including digital security, data privacy, and government regulations.

Further, Lenovo Malaysia Country General Manager, Khoo Hung Chuan has also commented that technological improvements over the past 30 decades or so have not translated into office productivity. This is due to digital product hiccups and inadequate digital knowledge among staff to fully utilise the power of such devices. “The path to deliver top-notch customer experience and unlock business value first needs to be paved by elevating the employee experience,” adds Ken Wong, President of Lenovo Asia Pacific.

As technology continues to evolve at a breakneck pace, it should be reminded that technology is merely an enabler. There are many parts of an organisation that need to change along with its technology in order to tackle the changing world ahead. For example, by 2020, millennials will make up more than 50 per cent of the workforce in Asia Pacific – bringing with them an entirely new set of expectations and needs. They are the first generation to grow up not knowing a world without smartphones and the Internet. Therefore, meeting their workforce needs is crucial in order to stay relevant and survive.
