JobStreet.com’s 18th HR Networking Event brought together over 350 HR professionals from various industries in Petaling Jaya. This annual event serves as an effective platform where HR experts are able to share their knowledge and insights with other practitioners from all around the country.
This year’s theme was “Building Successful Human Capital: Empowering Talent in a Challenging Economy”. The event featured the changing dynamics of the workforce and recruitment industry, which also addressed how human resources strategies can be enhanced to attract and retain talent in an uncertain economy.

In line with the conference theme, JobStreet.com released its Job Outlook Report 2017. The research for this report was conducted across six countries. In Malaysia, it revealed that 63% of candidates and employers agreed to a more conservative job outlook compared to the previous year. The challenging economy raised concerns among candidates that they may face stiffer competition in finding good jobs while employers are prudent with their hiring plans.
When surveyed in this challenging economy, 11% of employers indicated they would maintain hiring rates while only 18% of employers will increase hiring activity. According to the report, 54% of employers will largely replace or fill essential roles. Hence, the candidates’ concerns of not being able to find a good job
are valid given that they will have to compete more aggressively.
