Located on the Mekong Delta, Can Tho is one of the five municipal level cities in Vietnam (hence reporting directly to the State Council). It is the fourth largest city in Vietnam. The key industry in Can Tho is the food and fishery processing industry, accounting for over two-thirds of the total industral production in the city.

In this spirit, Business Media International (BMI), publisher of SME Magazine, welcomed a trade delegation from Can Tho city in Vietnam to Malaysia on 27 May 2019.

Led by Pham Van Hieu, Deputy Secretary and Chairman of the People’s Council of Can Tho, the delegation met with Dato’ William Ng, Group Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Business Media International at BMI’s office in Kelana Jaya. The purpose of the delegation’s visit was to promote and introduce Can Tho city to Malaysian investors, as well as strengthening the connection of trade and cooperation in high-tech agricultural development.

Nguyen Khanh Tung, Director of the Can Tho Promotion Agency, said, “Can Tho is aiming to become a beautiful, civilized, modern, bright, green and clean delta city—as a center of industry, trade-service, training and education, science and technology, regional health and culture. Currently, Can Tho is very interested in supporting favourable conditions for businesses to develop. The city government will continue to improve the investment and business environment in a more open way, remove difficulties and create the most favourable conditions to do business effectively in the city, for the long term.”

Also present at the meeting were representatives from businesses in Can Tho, who are keen to expand their businesses by welcoming trade partners from ASEAN.

The meeting concluded with the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between Business Media International and the Can Tho Promotion Agency, to increase bilateral cooperation for both Vietnamese and other ASEAN businesses to do business together.
