SME Corp Malaysia aims to certify 50 small and medium enterprises with the 1-Innovation Certification for Enterprise Rating and Transformation (1-InnoCERT) by the end of the year, reports BERNAMA.

Chairman of SME Corp Malaysia, Datuk Dr Mohamed Al Amin Abdul Majid said the programme has garnered a total of 17 new applications thus far.

According to Mohamed, SME Corp plans to organise five awareness workshops from February to March across the country. This workshop is meant to guide interested SMEs on the application process for the 1-InnoCERT programme. Mohamed stated this at a press conference after officiating the soft launch of the SME Innovation Award 2013.

The 1-InnoCERT is a certification meant to foster innovative enterprises through harnessing and intensifying home-grown research and development.

Under this programme, certified SMEs can benefit from the Green Lane Policy and will have priority access to government procurement, financial assistance and tax incentives.

A total of 115 companies, 46 per cent of which are Bumiputera firms, have attained the 1-InnoCERT certification since its inception in 2010.
